Project overview
Hotel Vinache, formerly known as "B on Canal Hotel", is a boutique hotel located on the iconic Canal Street in New Orleans. We were tasked with renaming and rebranding the hotel with a new logo & identity, making the brand look and feel more modern and sophisticated. I designed the branding & identity set, including a custom hand-drawn logomark, style guides, business collateral, and exterior signage.

Brand story
Canal Street’s history has always been shaped by every kind of character and story. Hotel Vinache takes its name from French surveyor Joseph Antoine Vinache, who conceptualized Canal Street in 1807. The canal he planned became a street instead, a famous meeting ground where all the elements that give New Orleans its certain je ne sais quoi came together: old world elegance, daring adventure, bold innovation, and eccentric mystique all mingled on the neutral ground of Canal Street.
Hotel Vinache’s logo features a New Orleans icon as its graphic: a Canal Street streetlamp. Famous for being among the world’s first streets powered by electrical lighting, alongside New York and Paris, Canal Street was also the city’s notorious red light district and became its theater district as well, illuminated by bright marquees and equally vivid performances. The beloved streetcar line still runs through the center of it all (and right past Hotel Vinache), bringing locals and visitors together as they experience New Orleans, New Orleans style.
